Choosing your Business

You may have a very good idea of the kind of business you wish to undertake. You may wish to have your own business but not know what that business should be. In both cases much thought should be given before launching off. Good research and close examination of your own character, attitudes and aptitudes are essential before you start.

Here are a few pointers:

  1. Make lists of everything you can do. No matter how small or seemingly trivial, set them down.
  2. What do you love doing? Include hobbies, satisfying tasks, occasional events.
  3. What are others doing? Search Yellow Pages, go to the library, surf the internet.
  4. When you narrow down your choices think about whether you can handle every aspect.Don’t be put off – you can often buy the bits you can’t do, for example, there are accountants who will set out your financial records.
  5. Where will you work? Think out how you will arrange your work area and what equipment you will need.
  6. Check out any regulations concerned with your business in your locality.
  7. Will your business fit in with your family life? Can you run it without damaging the family or the business? Will your family give support?
